Since 1946, campers of all ages have attended Camp Zion, which has operated under several names, including “Zion Camp” and “Camp Winnebago,” before the name was changed to “Camp Zion.” The camp owns 31.38 acres, following land purchases and gifts in 1962, 2001, 2007, and 2016. In 1998, the camp established a full-time camp director position, and Executive Director Dale Stewart and his family moved permanently to Ellison Bay in 2000.

The mission of Camp Zion Youth Camps is to invite campers to take a break from the pace of everyday life, experience God through His Word and His creation, discover the life-transforming power of Jesus Christ, and escape the ordinary in a temporary camp community. Fun activities, outdoor recreation, and meaningful worship times are described as working together to move hearts and minds toward a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe.

Camp Zion is licensed by the State of Wisconsin as a Recreation/Educational camp and is inspected annually. It is a charter member of the Christian Camp & Conference Association and is a ministry of Christ Community Church of Zion, Illinois, which is a member of the National Association of Evangelicals. The overall staff-to-camper ratio is 2:1, with each cabin staffed by a minimum of two cabin counselors, certified personnel supervise the waterfront, and the health supervisor works under the direction of a Wisconsin licensed physician.

Camp Zion Youth Camps uses mostly volunteer staff, who have established a tradition of popular, well-run programs. The camp is open year-round and offers summer youth camps, fall retreats, winter retreats, ladies’ retreats, men’s retreats, quilt and craft retreats, family camps, and guest group retreats. Camp Zion donors can participate in the “Leave Your Mark, Buy A Brick” program.

Camp Zion has been part of the Door County community since 1946 and is described as a beloved and integral fixture in the northern peninsula. Children and youth, their parents, adults, volunteers, and staff return to the area and frequent local restaurants, shops, and businesses, and many local Door County children attend Camp Zion as a favorite camp destination.

Families are given specific packing guidelines, including a luggage limit of one case not to exceed 50 pounds, one small overnight bag, and one bed roll, with luggage brought the morning of departure.
